This instrument uses the method of measuring permittivity.

A probe is sunk 2.5 m deep into the soil through a measurement tube. The profile of the soil moisture is measured with a resolution of 10 to 20 mm.

The measurements are automatically identified with measurement tube number, measurement time, and date.

Up to 100 measurements can be stored in the instrument.

Specifications:

Independently of the soil structure the measurement accuracy is 1.5%

Calibration:

After the measurement tube has been sunk, the soil around the measurement location is frozen with liquid nitrogen and a calibration measurement is taken. The data are used to compensate for the soil structure. If the high accuracy is not needed, the nitrogen calibration can be omitted.

Operation:

The probe is mounted on the measurement tube in the field and plugged into the instrument inside the carrying case. When the corresponding command button is pressed, the probe automatically descends inside the tube and returns to the starting point. The data (measured values, measurement time, date and measurement tube number) can subsequently be evaluated in a PC.

Measurement tubes:

Fibrous-glass reinforced plastic tubes, diam. 127 mm, with fittings for sinking by means of an electro-pneumatic hammer. Lengths 1.25 m, 1.65 m, 2.5 m.
