During mission STS-122 in February 2008 Space Shuttle “Atlantis” delivered COLUMBUS, a key component to continue the construction of the International Space Station.
COLUMBUS is Europe’s largest contribution to the construction of the station. The module houses experiments in life sciences, material science, fluid physics and other disciplines.

Meteolabor-Sensor for COLUMBUS
One of the swiss contributions to the COLUMBUS system is the Meteolabor thermohygrometer, which controls the air (temperature and humidity) inside the module. It is part of the modules own Environmental Control & Life Support Systems (ECLSS). The Meteolabor sensor has been chosen, not only because it has a higher precision than conventional humidity sensors, but also because it ensures a longer maintenance free lifetime. Similar instruments are used in the meteorological network of the swiss meteorological service, and by many others.
